Debut, 1987 release from legendary Norwegian Black Metal pioneers, Mayhem. The group's frontman, Per Yngve Ohlin (aka Dead) committed suicide and was found by their guitarist, Euronymous, on the floor with his wrists slashed and his face blown off by a shotgun. According to Black Metal lore, prior to calling the police, Euronymous collected some of his dead bandmate's splattered brain and skull fragments. Later, he made a stew from the brains, which he consumed, and jewelry from the shards of bone, which he wore. Euronymous was eventually stabbed to death by the band's bass-player, Varg Vikernes. Vikernes was tried and sentenced to 21 years for the murder. In addition, Vikernes, a radical neo-facist was tried and convicted for burning down churches in Norway. He has recorded from prison under the moniker, Burzum.
